Explaining Things

The girls have developed an attachment to The Sound of Music and we were watching it this morning.

How would you explain Maria’s leaving after her dance with the Captain?  To a 3- and 4-year-old?  I did okay, I guess, but I’ve not had an answer before today (and they have asked).

Today I said Maria thought she couldn’t serve God if she got married, and she felt she loved the Captain and wanted to leave before he wanted to get married.

Natasha seemed to understand me, and I added “That’s a little silly, isn’t it?  We know lots of people who are married and serve God.  Don’t we?”  She grinned.

“You!” she said.

I liked that.

  1. That is so cute. Troy (7) asked me today how old Jesus was turning on his birthday. I’m still trying to come up with an answer for that one.

On the Stella thing… wasn’t part of her claim that she didn’t know the coffee was hot? But besides that, I just can’t believe jurys are awarding these people money for this. I mean, the guy should have been prosecuted for breaking and entering! The ist woman should have kept a better reign on her kid, and for heavens sake, pay the three bucks fifty! *shakes head* I remember watching Montel for some reason, and there was a woman there who had a retraining order on an ex-boyfriend who was stalking her, who managed to get himself locked in their house while they were out, and when they called the police when they got home, and stayed outside with him inside, they arrested *her and her new husband* for, get this, ‘unlawful detainment’. Can you believe it?! It reminds me of the illegal immigrant parades. I feel like jumping up and down and shouting “There they are!! Arrest them!!”

Wow. That was a bit of a tangent.

    Anywhoo.

So yeah. I just think the whole thing is ridiculous. We have dumb verdicts like that over here too. It’s getting to the point where I said to Adam last night, “We need to pay our bills, and buy a house. Lets go out and do something stupid, and the sue someone else for it.” The derisery laughter was from both of us.
