When you write for fun, for passion (or as a lifeline), it means a lot to have friendly feedback, words that validate your creativity and effort and the place where you are at.

When you’re pushing yourself to be as much as you can be, you’re better off having an editor who’s not your friend. Someone who will say, “[Sorry if this hurts, but] this section would make a lot more sense without these pretty words.”
