Edits and Story Coaching

Editing means different things to different people.

When I use the word edit, I think shaping. As opposed to story coaching (below), where I make suggestions and ask questions to help you find your way, when it comes to editing I am thinking more of the reader, and less of you, the writer.

I look for anything that could toss readers out of the story, or flow of your thoughts, and look for places they could become confused or benefit from more information.

Editing, critiquing, and general feedback on whole or partial manuscripts:

$500 and up for book-length manuscripts, depending on length and level of response/editing required.

Please contact me for more information.

For long works (50+ pages) I offer a 3-page sample consult for free, both to give you an idea of my style, and to allow me to gauge the level of feedback expected.  Estimated project cost will be based on this initial consult.

Story Coaching is a more directly interactive process.

We sit down together, face-to-face (if you’re in Fairbanks, Alaska), over the phone, or via Skype (free internet-based video call). The goal in story coaching is to get at the core of your story, or answer specific questions you may have related to your project. Anything from brainstorming to breaking open story problems that may have you stuck.

We can root out your writers’ block, discuss a structural or story problem with your novel, or practice looking for the point and purpose of a memoir, the way a publisher might.

Brainstorming, discussing problems, and creating action steps:

$95/hour

To give you an idea how story coaching works and help you understand the value it brings to your writing project, I offer a 30-minute sample session, free for the scheduling.

I bring a lifetime of reading and story-loving to this job, supplemented with a bachelor’s in journalism and 15 years of writing experience.

With any questions, or to redeem the offer for the free 3-page edit or free 30-minute story coaching session, please fill the contact form.
